HISTORY OF THE THRIFT SHOP
The RMYA Thrift Shop was originally
operated by Girlsville Auxiliary to help
support Girlsville. After operating for several years, the shop began to show a profit, and the Board of Youth Alternatives decided to open the Savers Thrift Shop at 3201 West
Avenue in February 1980. Eight of the
Girlsville Auxiliary volunteers along with a Manager made up the first sales staff of
Savers Thrift Shop. The Thrift Shop opened for business at its present location on
February 1983, and at this time was renamed the Youth Alternatives Thrift Shop. In August 1993 the name was once again changed to honor Youth Alternatives founder, Roy Maas, and is now known as the Roy Maas’ Youth Alternatives Thrift Shop (RMYA). The Thrift Shop is open for business Tuesday – Saturday from 9:30 am – 5:30 pm.
